Best practices around existing mailing lists?
December 21, 2010, 09:33:58 am
Hi all,

This is my first message to the forum although I've been testing CiviCRM for a few years and I'm rolling it out progressively within my organisation currently.

I'd like to ask for advice about how to deal properly with existing "mailing lists contacts" such as "all@organisation.com" or "community@organisation.com" when the recipients of these lists is known (or managed by the CiviOrganisation)?

A few questions that arise are :
 - If you assign an "all@organisation.com" email address to an organisation, is there any way to specify a preference about how the email will be sent ? (through the mailing list or through each "employee of"?)
 - In the long term this seems tied to the question of synchronisation with mailing list managers (mailman, majordomo...). Anyone can update me about whether there are such solutions or efforts in progress?

This is what'I can think of now, but I'm especially interested in hearing about how others deal with this issue currently.

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

Best,

Jun.

might want to do a search here:

http://civicrm.org/civisearch

search for sympa or mailman. i think xavier posted some integration code with sympa

civicrm/civimail does not understand/interpret email addresses. hence all@organization.com is not treated in a special manner
