Content Encoding Error??
December 23, 2010, 07:50:17 pm
I'm now getting a "Content Encoding Error" when I try to load CiviCRM pages. I have a public-facing directory (profile) that seems fine (although it takes about 9 seconds to load), but if I try any of the backend, a given page will work on loading for about 10 seconds, gets about 90% of the way there (everything looks fine), but when my browser reaches "done," I get this error:

Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

I've looked at various compression options, and nothing seems to help (I'm running the Boost module to try to speed some other aspects of the site up, and turning that off has no effect).

Where should I look for the source of this problem?

(I'm still running 3.2.2. Over the holidays, I may reattempt upgrading to 3.3.1, but my last attempt may have been what caused this problem in the first place. It was an unmitigated disaster - recoverable, but since I still don't know what caused the problem, I'm scared!)

Ideas:

1. Turn of page compression on Drupal: Admin > Performance (if it is on)
2. What kind of server are you running?
3. What is in the server error log?
4. You should not need Boost module if your server is sufficient
