Tracking Contributions Through Email Link

We are sending out appeal emails and wish to track donations based on the click-throughs. We can check to see which users clicked through but not if any of those click throughs resulted in a donation. Is there anyway to do this within CiviMail/CiviContribute to where it tracks the user all the way through a successful donation?

one current option via a hook is documented here: http://civicrm.org/node/562

one option for the next release that we are fundraising for is in this make it happen:
