Timelines and Scheduling
January 03, 2011, 02:32:24 pm
I need to set up a timeline so that :
-a case is opened,
-a 'kickoff' meeting is scheduled manually (not automatically scheduled relative to open case date)
-and then based on the date of the meeting, all the other follow activities are automatically added and scheduled.

Do I need to use a hook to do this or is there a simpler way?

(I suppose I could have the staff simply set the Open Case date to the meeting date rather than the actual day the case is opened, though if there was a cleaner more professional way to handle this I'd like to do it.)

Thanks!!!

I think what you are looking for is the Add Timeline feature on the manage case screen.
Create your kickoff meeting and subsequent activities as a second <Timeline> entity in the xml file. Then the user can choose Add Timeline and add this second timeline when it is time to manually do that.

@demeritcowboy:

Thanks for the response.

If I use a second timeline, I cannot schedule the kickoff meeting for a specific date (because it sets the meeting to the current date, that is, to whichever date the timeline was initiated on). I need to be able to schedule the meeting, which is the first activity in the timeline, and then have the follow-ups scheduled automatically via the timeline, offset to the kickoff meeting.

Am I missing something?

Ok, then it's just a two-step process for the user. Don't put the meeting in any timeline section, but do define the second timeline to have offsets from the meeting. Then for the user it's "schedule the meeting manually", then "add timeline".
