Smarty error installing on Apache

I'm doing a fresh installation on Apache - installation goes successfully, but Drupal throws the following error or I get a blank page. (I have 64M allocated to PHP so it's not a memory issue):

warning: Smarty::_compile_resource(/var/www/vhosts/test.icrmedia.com/httpdocs/sites/all/modules/civicrm/packages/Smarty/internals/core.write_compiled_resource.php) [function.-compile-resource]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vhosts/test.icrmedia.com/httpdocs/sites/all/modules/civicrm/packages/Smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1432.

Help anyone? Thanks!

Can you confirm you have "files" directory with write permission.
