Modifying your event registration

Is there anyway for a user to modify and event registration? Let's say he decides that he now wants to add the dinner package to his existing registration. Or he did not pay in full the first time and wants to pay off the rest, maybe with a different credit card.

Is this something people are already working on, or even thinking about somewhere? I'd love for this option and could potentially have funds to help move this along.
