Getting CiviSMTP/CiviMail running after server move
January 06, 2011, 06:11:59 pm
Howdy,

I think I need help charting a path in setting up CiviSMTP back running after our webhost (Dreamhost VPS) moved servers on us, which broke the custom PHP installation (needed for the SOAP library). Recently, they added SOAP libraries to PHP 5.3 on their servers, so I thought it might be time to work out the kinks. Here are the issues I'm seeing:

1. When clicking "test settings" in the CiviSMTP account settings screen I get the message "Civimail User Check : it appears that the proxy URL that you gave is invalid", and everything else checks out OK. I'm not sure is this is an issue with SOAP failing, or something else due to changing PHP versions. As I said I had it running with a compiled version of PHP, now we are running the stock PHP on dreamhost that includes SOAP.

2. In CiviMail, if I goto Send Mail, select a group, and click 'next' I get the "Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred." I've attached an image below of the screenshot for that.

I'm running CiviCRM 2.0.2 and Drupal 5.19 and PHP 5.3.4. My phpinfo file is here http://www.pdxpeace.org/phpinfo.php

Any help is greatly appreciated.

May be a difficult error to pinpoint, in particular because your CiviCRM version is quite old. I presume you are well aware that Drupal 5 has now EOL'd ("End of Life"d) meaning it's no longer supported (including no more security patches guarantee) so upgrading is a serious consideration.

That aside, I would suggest you ask your host what else changed and why and if they can restore your previous configuration. A VPS is supposed to be portable.
