Using Profiles vs. CiviMember
December 12, 2007, 12:18:00 pm
Hi,

Here is a quick question / verification regarding the amazing profile feature.

In the documentation, it is mentionned:

“Profiles have an implicit type which is determined by the record type of the fields you add to it. For example, if you put the field First Name which belongs to Individual contact records into a Profile - then the Profile type will be Individual. The current supported types are: Individual / Household / Organization / Contribution / Member / Participant / and Mixed.”

It is also mentionned:

"If enabled, CiviMember will extend profile by adding a new option to the Add/Edit Profile Field -> Field Name drop-down. Option label is Membership Type(s) (value is membership_type). When a civicrm_uf_field record with this field_name is included in a Profile form - a radio button group is rendered with a radio input element for each public active membership_type record. Radio element labels are formed from membership_type.name + membership_type.description."

I've tried to do it in both the public demo and my installation.  Is it possible to use CiviMember with profiles? If yes, in which context?
The only values I got displayed for the fields categories are: Individuals, Households, Organizations, Participants, Contributions.  I never see Member and I tried with the 4 different types of profiles.

Thanks

Kurund Jalmi

Support for membership fields in Profile is been added in v2.0. Sorry for the misleading documentation.

Thanks for the quick reply! (And I'm satisfied with the documentation so far. CiviCRM is a large application  :) )

Will it be the same for Contributions? Right now, it's possible to use contribution fields for contact search and registration, but I don't see any option do search/list contributions with a specific profile from the menu "Find Contributions".

No. We don't have such option.  You can only create a profile with Contribution Fields and potentially used it for Batch update or online pages.
