Hi,

On Joomla with CiviCRM 3.2.beta5, we sent our first large message (14,000) after transitioning from another service, and the bounce rate was probably 75%. They all bounced with Bounce Type "host" and Bounce Reason "Not Connected". To me, it would seem that the email never left the server and maybe SMTP went kaput. We tested on much smaller lists (5 people) with the same HTML. As a matter of fact everyone on the small list bounced went we sent to the larger.

I wonder if throttling them in Civimail "Mailer Settings" would help, or maybe a server config? CiviCRM is on a VPS.

Seems that you have a problem with the smtp server, but not sure. try using mail() see if it improves things.

Also, you should upgrade, no need to stay using a beta, the production ready version has been released.

Ah, it was an obvious error. Using Gmail (google apps) for SMTP meant it ran against their limit. I setup using a subdomain like bounce@e.domain.com and it worked fine.
