new installation - puts civicrm.settings.php in root directory not subdirectory
January 09, 2011, 06:35:00 am
Hi,

Just did a new install of civicrm on drupal 6, installing to a subdirectory and followed the instructions (I have a drupal site installed in teh root directory of public_html and other subdomains on other subdirectories hosting other drupal sites.

On the pre install page it says that I had to enable the public_html/sites/default folder as writable, and then the civicrm installer wrote the civicrm.settings.php to this directory instead of to the <subdirectory>/sites/default folder.

I moved it to this folder, and it seems to work at first, but when I go to the Civicrm home link in drupal  it doesn't work properly and says "Oops civicrm already installed..."

Please help.

Deva

Update: Have managed to get the civicrm home page working and the dashboard showing now by copying the civicrm.settings.php file that the installer had written to the root of my public_html folder into the correct place in the civicrm drupal module, and modifying the file to point to the civicrm module, as per the comments in the file.

I still have the problem though when I try to add a contact, or do anyting else in civicrm - it says oops civicrm already installed

If I try to delete that civicrm.settings.php file in the root, then it comes up with a install dialog.

Is there something else in the settings.civicrm.php file that is causing it to point there instead of at the civicrm module in my drupal install?

Any ideas?

You will need to adjust all of the directories in civicrm.settings.php and make sure they are correct. Read them carefully to be sure they have the subdirectory. Then also check the Resource URLs via the CiviCRM Administer page.

Thanks Hershell,

Yes, I finally got it going. Had to manually copy the civicrm.settings.php file into the subdirectory and adjust the links within that as you said.

Sorry if I'm taking y'all back in history, but I think I'm having the same problem. Except I'm not using a "public_html" though perhaps that's exactly how I should it set up(?) then would "public_html" be my "root"? I am using the developer desktop too and I think has confused me at the Mac OS leve (snow-leopard)l. by default, I seem to have: /Users/myself/Sites/acquia-drupal/sites/civicrm.localhost
IN civicrm.localhost lives the file: civicrm.settings.php
I tried setting civicrm_root to find this file.

Is the location of civicrm.settings.php my problem? If it is, where should the file live?

Many thanks in advance...

I think that is the issue. It sounds like it should be in /Users/myself/Sites/acquia-drupal/sites/default

Check in there for settings.php. Your civicrm.settings.php goes wherever settings.php is.
