Profile search, view and edit are not supported for Profiles which include...
January 09, 2011, 11:31:59 am
Getting this error when I click on the "Use (Create Mode)" button from my profile fields page.

"Profile search, view and edit are not supported for Profiles which include fields for more than one record type. "

All the fields in this profile are listed as "participant" fields and were all specifically created to use for someone registering for an event.

Any thoughts?  A bug perhaps?

By the way, what is "Use (Create Mode)"?  Sounds like it would be a way to graphically or visually create the profile, but googling suggests it is something else - very confusing and no help on the UI.

Create mode is available only for profile with all contact fields. Create mode won't work with event or any other component fields. So this is expected behavior.

I'm getting this error when I try including a view-only Membership Status field in a profile that gets emailed to the user for them to click on.

Is there a better way to let users check on the status of their membership?

profile urls for create/edit/view mode are restricted to contact profiles only. Hence the below wont work

However for the ARMS project: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/ARMS+Project+Home

we've successfully implemented profile edit/view for contact + activity profiles. We are looking at making it more generic to allow use of this feature for contact + contributuon, contact + membership, contact + participant profiles etc. Please ping us on IRC if u'd like to work on this :)

For now, the quickest way to do this would be to use a hook to show the membership status to the user

So a profile with only "participant" or "individual" fields can't be included in an email with a contact checksum?

I was hoping to send each conference participant an email saying please click here to update your registration information.

Currently no :(

If you can help develop this / if your org can sponsor this, it would be great and benefit the community a whole lot. We did a fair amount of the core work needed for this with the ARMS project, so seems like it is doable in approx 50-70 hours. This would definitely be a great add to CiviCRM

Currently no. But might want to check if this is now feasible via the webform_civicrm module, the super-awesomest civi module :)

Thanks for getting back to me Donald.

I'm looking for a Joomla option.
I noticed on a old post you mentioned the following;

1. create a profile with only contact/individual info
2. expose the profile so auth users can edit it (with minimal access to civicrm)
3. use the buildForm hook and customized templates to add ALL your participant fields
4. use the postProcess hook to modify the db based on user input

Is this still the best way?
Any examples you know of?
