Can you test the same procedure on Firefox or Chrome on the same machine?

If it is slow only on IE, then we can attribute this to underperformance of IE. But if FF and Chrome also are slow, then perhaps it's something else.

Yes its only on IE. Firefox and Chrome works just fine. How will this be resolved?

When clicking a contact from civiCRM and click edit next to the name using IE8, the whole page hangs up.

Heres the link of the screenshot ---> http://powerstormtech.com/images/civicrm-edit-error.png

What are the possible solutions for this? How can this be resolve?

Thanks.

Can you test this on the demo site: http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/ ?

What theme are you using for your site? Perhaps try switching to Garland and see if this problem still exists.

How many tags/group do you have in your install?

(btw, ie is slower than FF or chrome, might be a good idea to suggest your users to switch to an open browser as a workaround)

Tested on demo. Yes it happens. We created groups up to 150.  Then edit a contact and it hangs up (IE8 browser). We tried to use different themes and same thing happens. Whats the best option for this? :(

We have tested it on demo. The reason why it hangs up on IE8 is that there are too many groups (particularly 150 groups), browser can't obviously handle it. We tried using different themes for this and same thing happens, it hangs up. And also we tried using different browsers like Firefox and Chrome, and it doesn't show any problem. Only in IE8 only.. :(

here's the link of the demo page that hangs up:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/add?reset=1&action=update&cid=103

We really need help on this one. Please tell us on what's the best thing for this one?

Hi,

You can

1) disable the contact edit form so it doesn't display the groups.
2) have less group
3) switch your users to a better browser

(I'd go for 3)

1) disable the contact edit form so it doesn't display the groups.

Regarding that, was there a configuration to disable displaying the groups in edit form? or I'll have to modify the code then?

Anyway, that's just it. I hope this issue will be considered on future release of civicrm.

Check:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/setting/preferences/display?reset=1

You can disable that pane from the UI

Just want to note that I found the code that causes this IE SLOW WARNING message.

It is caused by the jquery-v1.4.3.js (which is used in civicrm-v3.3.3, didn't check on other versions)

Jquery-v1.4.3.js : line 3736-3746
Code: [Select]
// Otherwise they're somewhere else in the tree so we need
// to build up a full list of the parentNodes for comparison
while ( cur ) {
ap.unshift( cur );
cur = cur.parentNode;
}

cur = bup;

while ( cur ) {
bp.unshift( cur );
cur = cur.parentNode;
}

I don't understand why that part is being ran even if it was not being called.

But anyway, I hope that helps in future development. And yeah, this is jquery related.

Thanks
