Drupal 'Admin' Module: Display CiviCRM
January 10, 2011, 02:24:43 pm
Hi, there is a very nice module in drupal called "admin" (not admin_menu). It seems that CiviCRM is adapted to admin_menu, for that admin_menu module displays the CiviCRM menu.

However, it is not possible to access CiviCRM via this other 'admin' module/menu. I like the 'admin' module more than the admin_menu; is it possible to integrate CiviCRM into it?

thanks,
Brian

I believe the Drupal admin_menu module is at least somewhat integrated with the CiviCRM ribbon, in that you can switch back and forth between the two. Try it by logging in the sandbox site (sandbox.civicrm.org). When you go to a CiviCRM, click on the "Home" menu item. You'll see a menu item that says "Drupal Menu". That will make the Drupal admin_menu appear.

I would like to more closely integrate CiviCRM's admin menu with the general Drupal admin menu, though. My staff does a lot of work on both ends, and it would be good for them to be able to seamlessly switch back and forth (e.g., create an event page and the post a story about it) without dealing with separate menus.

I'm actually going to look into making a Drupal module to accomplish this. I figure it shouldn't be terribly difficult to shift this function into a Drupal module and then disable the standard menu.

I'll post back here if I make any progress. Maybe you'll find it useful as well.

Still having the same issue here. It works, but I think it is counterintuitive. I made a drupal 'shortcut' to enter civicrm, and you have to 'leave' civicrm by clicking on 'home'. I find it hard to explain.

There is a little home icon in the drupal admin menu. It gets replaced by a search bar in Civi.
I think it would be nice if that icon stays - and takes you to the drupal admin + home page (as it does in drupal), and a second icon next to it could take you to civicrm dashboard. The civi icon should ideally be there in the drupal admin menu as well, so these two icons are like a switch.  the civi search bar could sit to the right of those two icons.

First things to change are - add a blurred home icon in the civi menu. Add a hilited civi icon in the civi menu.
Then, add a blurred civi icon in the drupal admin menu, next to the hilited home icon.

Would anyone know how to do that - is it possible ?

I think I was confused there. I was talking about the default 'toolbar' module in the drupal7 core.
It differes from the admin_menu module in that it has no dropdown menu; it has a 'shortcuts bar' though.

You can easily manage the links in the toolbar using structure/menu/management as described here
http://drupal.org/node/1664830

So, I've put civi in place and I can css it to become an icon of some sort. That was step 1.

Does anyone know how to customize/override/style/theme the Civicrm 'toolbar' menu,
so that i can add the same two icons to the left side there ?
