Profile Set to Public/Listings with email address

I have placed on a public listings page a group of contacts with their email address and set to Public/Listings expecting it to be clickable so as to launch a users email client.

When I click on the email address, it returns me to the Edit Search Settings with:
Displaying contacts where:
Email LIKE ''%userID@domainname.org%'' ...AND...
Contacts IN Legislative Staff ...AND...
Group Status - "Added" and only returning the user who's email address I just clicked on.

Is there a way, with out adding a custom field called email address of Type Note / RichText, then adding the email address there and creating the mailto: link?

Any other field that I have created as a link and set to public/listings work great, they go to the links as desired.

That's the only way I have been able to come up with a work around.

another option might be to customize the template and add the "mailto" link in the template. Check
