Checksum Token and Household Address
January 13, 2011, 10:35:50 am
On a Drupal site with CiviCRM 3.1.3, all contacts are linked to house addresses. If I send CiviMail with a checksum token to a profile and I update my address, what I see is that my Individual contact address was updated, but not the Household. I actually just added a state via the checksum link profile and that state shows up on the Individual's address (which is still linked to the household) but when I view the Household record, there's still no state there.

Is this expected?

Is there a way to get the profile, which is accessed via checksum, to update the Household address?

Hi,

It's one of these situation where there isn't a good answer I'm afraid. Either you let the user change the address of the household, and little Kevin that moved out to a campus updates his address and all the family address is wrongly switched to his university, or the family has really moved but you changed the address of only one of the individuals.

Ideally, should ask if it's a change of address only for the individual or the household, but that's quickly becoming very complicated. Throw in that the address can be shared with a company or an household now, and that's a mess of edge cases on the top of special cases, and you need piles of automated tests to avoid spending days fixing one weird scenario but f**king up another weird scenario.

X+

PS. Any resemblance to the situation with "dedupe on registration to event when allow multiple participants with the same email but still with a profile that might contain an email or not" purely coincidental, obviously.

X+,

Have you had to handle this situation where the admins want users to edit their household address? We can limit this access to authenticated (but non-admin) users, but the data is built around household addresses and in the case, the admins would like to allow the users to edit their household addresses.
