SOLVED Installation problem; banner directory in use
December 14, 2007, 09:31:33 am
I'm trying to install CIVICrm on Joomla. When I go to Install--Components and enter the full path to the director and click Install (using Install from directory)  I get the message:
Another component is already using directory: "/home/content/t/a/i/taiji2001/htm/piv/components/com_banners/"

What can I try next?

Why are you using the banner directory? Did you rename the CiviCRM directory?

I've seen this type of thread several times on this forum, as I was having the same issue, only mine was getting an error on com_events folder.

When I started to look closer, while using the "install from directory" option, I was typing in ~/com_civiccrm , instead of ~/com_civicrm !

Notice the extra "c" on the first attempt!  It installed successfully when using the proper directory.  Whoever on this board that kept pointing to Joomla as the issue was correct!

I am using J! 1.0.13 with CiviCRM v1.8.xxxx (latest) (because my host is php 4.x).

I hope this helps and works for those in similar situation.  I was so frustrated and about to give it up.

Thanks tso2085, I doublechecked that I was typing civicrm correctly, and I was - but your comment made me double check the whole path.  I had put the com_civicrm folder in the components folder - not the administrator/components folder.  That may have been the problem.

To answer lcdweb, I did not use the banner directory - that's why the error message was so confusing.  However, com_banner is the first directory under the components folder, so perhaps that is why I got that error message.

I'll move the folder and try again.  I'll let you know if it worked.

That solved the problem of the banner directory error message.  Now I'm working on another problem - but I've already traced it to PHP4 instead of PHP5 installed on the site.
