I'm confused about the resubscribe feature. We've set up a system to send a Message Template to people with a resubscribe checksum link if their email address is already in CiviCRM. They go to a profile where they can resubscribe to whichever groups they want.

However this doesn't uncheck the 'No Bulk Emails (User Opt Out)' and the 'Do not email' options (not sure if the second one is custom for us), so they are still unsubscribed, even though they got the Message Template email.

I can make those options visible in the profile, but it looks a bit weird and needs to have instructions for the users to uncheck a box to complete something we should really be completing for them.

Is this how it's supposed to work? Why doesn't 'resubscribe' undo the opt-out, since that's the point of resubscribing, and would be how many users have unsubscribed in the first place?

I can see the confusion. From what I understand "unsubscribe" and "opt out" have two different results. The first just removes someone from a mailing group. The latter flags the contact so they don't get emails even if they're part of a mailing group. So you'd have to uncheck opt out on the admin side or try do it in a profile.
