activities logged twice
January 18, 2011, 04:37:26 am
hi,

when i create a activity and assign it to an other employee of our ngo, he gets two activity listed in his record. one about the created meeting, the other one about the email notification sent to him.

is this a error or can this be disabled? it doesnt make much sense to have two records about the same activity.

thanks

I'm guessing it was an intended effect - email notification is a different "phenomenon" (for the lack of other word, since I don't want to use the work "event" here to avoid confusion :-) ) than the fact of signing someone up for the event - event though they bring the same information to some extent.

Thx,
m

Hi,

Thank for the answer, but I don´t get it :)

How can I get rid of this "double logging"?

Hi,

(I'm saying the same thing as Michal).

They are two different activities
1) the meeting,
3) the notification has been sent to the contact you have assigned the activity

As you can disable that assigned contacts receives a notification, kind of makes sense to store the notifications on the top of the meeting.

(Not that convinced that it's useful either, just that it's coherent IMO)

Hey

I don´t want to disable the function that assigned contact get an email but that this email is assigned as an activity to the contact.

I really don´t get the sense of this. The assigned person already gets the activity assign so why does there have to a be an extra activity about the fact that the person received an email about this activity.

Thanks,

Because she did ? (based on how your installation is configured, she might, or might not receive one, by logging it every time civi sends it, you can be sure she did receive it).

Not saying it's super useful, but as it is possible to assign an activity to someone without also sending an email, it's clearer to track that sending separately.

But if your org is willing to sponsor/code a feature so you can disable the log of the sending activity in that case, might be a useful feature

We have a client who might co-sponsor a more general feature. It would be useful to have related sub-activities (a more generic description for an email copy sent) show up the same way that comments on Notes on contact records do, i.e. using the expandable triangle technique which is collapsed by default and then when you expand it shows the related activities indented.

This has an additional benefit in that if you then later edit the original activity date/time, the activity and the email copy sent currently become disconnected, but with the triangle thingy it would still be connected.

Hi,

That's a nice idea!

@civicore: Would it be easy to do? There is already a hierarchy that is possible now, that would be "only" about setting the activity as parent of the mail?

hello

thanks for the reply. the idea with the subcategories sounds nice. however i want to completely disable this double logging.

I would be willing to sponsor (money) a coding project with this result.

Who can do this? How long will it take? How much will it cost?

You can set CIVICRM_ACTIVITY_ASSIGNEE_MAIL to 0 in civicrm.settings.php but then no email is sent.

Xavier the database already has the link set. What would need doing is updating the query (which is already complex), and the datatables widget would need to have the custom draw function implemented or something.
