Have you seen this when editing a page?

Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.
There is a validation error with your HTML input. Your activity is a bit suspicious, hence aborting

Please post the following here to help get to the bottom of this problem.

1. Your CMS software and version (i.e. Drupal 6.20)
2. Your CiviCRM software and version (i.e. 3.3.2)
3. The type of data you were editing: Contribution Page, Event Registration, Profile, etc.
4. The exact text you were editing, in its entirety (use CODE tags here in the forum to paste it)
5. Did the error begin to appear after an upgrade, if so what version->version?
6. Is this a new page/profile, or a page/profile that has existed a while?

Here is the first one for this thread, this is my personal favorite and it really made my day.

Drupal 6.20, CiviCRM 3.3.2.  Page worked before upgrade from 3.1.6, now it doesn't want to save because I am suspicious.  Maybe it's this hat I'm wearing, it does seem a bit shady.   ;D :) ;)

In this particular case, the results are consistent.  I cannot save in this configuration.  If I simply remove the <a href="mailto" link from the footer I can save.  This took me about 10 mintues to figure out, after having totally frustrated my client for over an hour.  This page has existed since CiviCRM 2.2

I'd thought maybe it would be the ":" in the href that was to blame, thinking it'd be an over-zealous xss prevention measure accusing you of trying to hack your own site for using non-whitelisted characters. But I tried creating a page with the mailto: link on the 3.3.3 demo and it had no problem with it at all.

So to conclude, the culprit has to be your hat. Is it a black cowboy hat? If so, it'll be CiviCRM's built in protection against gun-slingin' outlaws.

Just fill in all the data you can, and then click the &quot;<strong>SAVE</strong>&quot; button. We can fix this information later. Please be sure to put in your pin/zip code, which will help us. This error doesn&#39;t happen for everyone. Appologies for this.</p>

The &quot;trick&quot; is to select things in a specific order: &quot;year, month, day&quot;. More specifically:</p>

<li>
Click on the small &quot;<u><strong>calendar</strong></u>&quot; button to select the date</li>
<li>
<span style="color: rgb(178, 34, 34);"><strong>Choose the YEAR first</strong></span></li>
<li>
Choose the Month</li>
<li>
Click the day of the month within the calendar.</li>
</ol>
<p>
<strong>Tip: </strong>If you accidentally press &quot;Enter&quot; before completing, just press the &quot;Back&quot; button on your browser.</p>
<p>
Thanks for your time!</p>

Following the comments here, I opened the source tab, and removed the two links (leaving the link as plain text).

Then it saved OK.

This is in CiviCRM Profile Settings edit (pre) field.

My "workaround" is to open the civicrm_uf_group table, and edit the help_pre directly with the HTML source afterwards.

Thanks for feedback and for your how-to story, I agree generally the problem can be solved by removing <a href links in the text boxes for an event or contribution page.

In future versions of the software, starting with (I think) 3.4, Lobo has informed me the security will be loosened somewhat, and this error will appear less often.

Message occurred when pasting an inbound email into an activity

Message is html email.

Drupal 6.20

civi 3.2.5 - with ckedit selected as rich text editor

Resolved by using the paste as plain text tool of the rich text editor ... but ya gotta know that's what it means! Please paste using the 'paste as plain text' tool would be better.

Joomla 1.5.22
CiviCRM 3.3.3

Error occurs in 2 places:

1. When editing the online registration tab for an event, the description referenced 3 images. No other links on the page.
2. When doing an advanced search, looking for event participants (same event as #1)

When I removed the image references, the error did not happen any more.  The site worked fine before the update to 3.3.3

Do you recommend an update to 3.4?

Drupal 6.2
CiviCRM 3.3.5

I've never seen this error message until yesterday afternoon--when trying to save a mass mailing. Now it's occurring all over the place:

  • Trying to save a mass mailing
  • Event - Online Registration page - when trying to save the page with images in the Register and Confirmation fields
  • Event Template - Online Registration page -  - when trying to save the page with images in the Register and Confirmation fields, then without an image in the Confirmation field, then without any images
  • Trying to send an email

The latest has been an email I've been trying to send for the last 3 hours. I finally removed all images, all links, sent only to the primary recipient (no CC or BCC), sent using the primary email that I was logged in with instead of the info@ in the FROM field that I wanted to use. Not sure what did it - magic ;D - but it finally sent.

If it happens again I'll post immediately with code.

Vanessa

I am the Super Administrator on my site. For the first time on Saturday I received the following message from CiviCRM. I had just opened the CRM. We have not upgraded the software or Joomla.

Sorry a non-recoverable error has occurred
There is a validation error with your HTML input. Your activity is a bit suspicious, hence aborting.

I travel frequently and was attempting to login from a hotel room.

Other users still have access; however I add most of the information to the database.

How do I resolve this issue?
