Flexibility of Honoree section on contribution pages
February 01, 2011, 04:01:49 pm
I'm trying to set up a contribution page that enables the user to make a contribution that enables  the honoree to use the contribution to gain free access to an event.

I can't work out where the code that inserts the radio buttons about Honoring someone or in memoriam of someone. These options seem to be hard coded rather then being configurable options, which is a shame. Also I had anticipated being able to use a profile to collect the information about the honoree, but again this seems to be hard coded.

Any pointers about customising this content gratefully accepted. And maybe a more flexible approach to the whole honoree section, enabling a wider range of use cases, could be considered for a future release?

CRM/Contribute/Form/Contribution/Main.php, function buildHonorBlock(  )

A lot of folks have requested this along with the "on behalf of" block to be made customizable. Unfortunately, none of them have been willing to contribute code (or $$$) to make it happen.

Would be great if you can make it more configurable and add more flexibility so a wider range of cases can be covered. Ping us on IRC if you need help

Thanks Lobo
I'll talk my colleague on this - who unlike me does PHP development for the day job - to see if he might be interested in doing something. And/or, as I've mentioned in a different post on a different topic, I am willing to start off a 'Make it Happen' campaign with a modest donation. How do we start these things off?

can you PM eileen M on the forums and express your interest. Note that there has been an existing MIH to make "on behalf of" functionality more flexible via profiles and it has not gotten a lot of traction. Check: http://civicrm.org/mih (search for "On Behalf")

In general we also find that MIH projects that come out of the date with a 33-50% seed funding have a better chance of being successful.
