Adding smart groups to ACL

Hi
Is there something in the works to add smart groups to ACL?
This would be helpful because I would like people that have an coach relationship (added to a coach smart group) to have access to aset of data. As I assign them as a coach they would automatically be added to the smart group thus automatically added to the ACL group.

The criteria could then be anything, like a group of people who live in a city have access to a set of data. ect.

Any thoughts? And would this be difficult to get developed?

this is not on our current road map.

A couple of options:

1. You can potentially do this via the ACL hooks today. PHP/MySQL knowledge required

2. You can sponsor this development for core. If i had to guess this is approx a 30-50 hour project. The main issue is ACL's do a fair amount of caching for optimization and  smart groups basically breaks all that. so we'll need to rework the caching layer
