Setup triggers for logging on Hostgator
February 04, 2011, 12:21:14 am
Hi,
I want to set up triggers for the logging in Civi but Hostgator don't give permissions to create triggers but will create them for you.  Is there an sql script that I can give them to run that will create all the required triggers for me?

Thanks,
Malks.

no. the sql is dynamically generated by "introspection" of the db schema

note that you do need trigger support as you add custom groups and for upgrades as the schema changes. So doing it via a script will not work in the medium/long term

Just for the record, that means that logging won't work on any shared hosting atm.  Because creating triggers (before MySql 5.1.6 at any rate) requires the SUPER permission, cPanel doesn't allow it.  I think this has changed at the MySql level but is not yet supported by cPanel.

Just to add to this again... Hostgator, if you ask them through a support ticket, will grant the TRIGGER privilege to a particular user on a database.  I've been quite happy with Hostgator and this is another reason why.
