Not seeing saved data.
February 10, 2011, 06:12:45 am
Hi,

I'm new to CiviCRM and am just beginning the process of setting up my first system on Joomla, so sorry if this is an easy question, but I couldn't find the answer anywhere.

When I add some basic core data like a new relationship against a contact it seems not to show up straight away. The number on the tab increases by one but the detail below still shows 'there are no relationships for this contact' When I click 'add' I can see it under existing relationships.

Anyway, I tried to clear the browser cache and that didn't bring it up, I logged out and back in and that didn't either. It did appear some time later though. The Joomla cache is disabled.

Anyway, I tried it on the demo sites and the Joomla version seems to do the same as on my site but the Drupal one does show the new relationship straight away as soon as the record refreshes after hitting save?

Can anyone help? I really hope this is something simple I'm missing (as a newb) as the data must be seen straight away for this to be usable as users won't trust it is saving things.

I've also seen a lag in the creation of custom data fields, IE I create a new custom data group and fields add some data to a contact, go back and create more fields, go back to the contact and the new fields are not showing.

Another but maybe related thing is that when I have 'default vaues' set in custom fields when I add data to a contact the default values are not populated in the fields on add?

Thanks for your help!

Dave

Hi again,

Not having heard anything I've kept on trying to suss this out, I suddenly thought it might be my browser, so I tried Firefox instead of IE and the relationship shows up straight away in the Joomla demo site?!

So Drupal works in either browser but Joomla doesn't work in IE, can anyone help me in finding out what setting this might be or is it a general issue with IE?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Dave

PS - the default values still aren't populating though when you add/edit a contact the first time (IE when the tab shows '0', the edit button is visible you click it and it opens the custom data form but with no values). Interestingly, if a contact has a record filled in and you add a new field custom field with a default it does add this new default into the pre-existing record - hmm - confused.

Hi again,

ok - so further investigation seems to show it is browser cache issues.

I changed IE8 settings to 'Check for newer versions of stored pages - every time I vist the webpage' and it fixes the issue of the data not showing.

MY question is that this in effect turns off the cache - is there any way of getting this to work without having to use this setting globally?

Also doesn't explain why a CTRL F5 doesn't bring up the data - is this because of AJAX or something?

Sorry to keep on about it but this seems really important.

Any thoughts, experiences or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Dave
