Raising profile of civiCRM to Charity ITC influencers
February 11, 2011, 09:13:44 am
At the meetup in Bristol yesterday there was a discussion about the ways we could help promote civiCRM. There seemed to be a number of complementary ideas. One of them was to identify associations and other groups that could influence the decision to adopt civiCRM. At least we should identify those that recommend and list software for adoption by charities.

This thread is one method of getting that going. Perhaps people could reply with an address of organisations they come across so that we, as a community can lobby them to list and write about civiCRM.

You may also wish to point me (and others) towards any existing campaigns of this nature.

Here is a pair of websites (they are linked in some way)

http://www.ctxchange.org/
http://www.ctt.org/

I was astonished to see them promoting Microsoft products and other temporary discounts without listing any Open Source software at all, that I could see.

Nor can I see any means of putting a recommendation onto the site.

I have placed an enquiry (which asks manufacturers not to contact them) about the ctx and hope to enter into some dialog with them.

I suspect I am not the best diplomat - do others have information or means of addressing them?

CTX (disclosure: a client of ours) works in the UK to manage the technology donation programmes of several large software providers that allow small charities to access certain of their products free or at substantial discounts if they meet certain criteria. This means that a group can get hold of a free upgrade copy of Windows so that they can run an application that they may need to etc. They do this through TechSoup http://home.techsoup.org/ who are the main coordinator of these programmes in the US and you may be interested to know that they use CiviCRM as part of the process.
They also engage with non-profits and consult on how best to achieve their goal with technology, some of which involves promoting Open Source products such as Civi. A new website is underway which may make some of this clearer so I would suspend your judgement until this is launched.
