Is there any way to disable the Javascript action menu?
February 11, 2011, 04:05:05 pm
Our users are complaining that they want to be able to right click on a hyperlink and see the browser's normal navigation menu rather than the CiviCRM action menu. Is there a way to disable it for all but the "More" action in the last column of a row? The reason is they want to open a user's record in a new tab and leave the search results where they are.

Another thought is maybe the script could be modified to open a new tab or window, depending on the browser. I'm not a javascript expert so I can't answer my own question.

Hi,

You're talking about this feature, right ?

I'm almost agreeing with you that one shouldn't replace the right click default action, but let's try to poke kyle see what he's thinking.

I read through the blog and thought the idea of replacing right-click with left-click was a reasonable solution.

kyle did a first cut of this but had to be rolled back because it caused more issues than it solved

this issue has been pushed off till 4.1 (at the earliest)

if its a show stopper for folks, would be great to get some patches / contribution to help fix this earlier

We are short on resources but I am looking around for someone with the required skillset. I hope we can help.

In the meantime, one of our members found a workaround for us. This was posted to the blog:

And come to find out the solution was always there... (hurray Jason for figuring this out!)
Although, in the CiviCRM contact list, you can no longer simply right-click on a contact to access the menu to open in new tab, new window etc. you CAN do the following:
Press CTRL key and LEFT click to open contact in a new tab
Press SHIFT and LEFT click to open contact in a new window
In Firefox (but not I.E.): Press ALT and left click to download the contact's page (equivalent to "save target as" - it opens the page then saves it as an html with no stylesheet).
