Configuring multiple participants with same email properly?
February 16, 2011, 06:23:55 pm
Hi using 3.2.5 and wondering how to configure multiple participant registrations using the box for "same email for multiple participants".

I have checked the "multiple" and the "same email" options.

I've also gone in as instructed in the [?] help text and changed the Default Individual Strict dupe rule to:
4 points First Name
6 points Last Name
(not mentioning or using emails at all)
Threshold: 10

I *think* this is how I do it, but the result is that the multiple participants get the email address of the primary participant, and their First and Last name emails are blank.

Example result:
Mary Smith  msmith@google.com  (primary participant)
                   msmith@google.com  (additional #1)
                   msmith@google.com  (additional #2)

Am I doing this right?  Is this a bug?   Must I upgrade to 3.3.5 for the functionality to work?

I read the book, there is no mention of this.

Hi,

Yeap, long discussion and debug and coding, multiple registration+same email+ profile should work ok on the 3.3.5

Could you upgrade and test  (or check on demo first).

UPDATE
What I had written below WAS true, but is not any longer.  I'm keeping the text there for posterity.
When a profile contains First Name and Last Name fields that are Participant fields and not Individual fields, this feature will not work.  However, the profile containing inappropriate name fields can be can still be selected as a valid profile in the event configuration.  The client had setup their profile incorrectly.

Thanks Xavier!

On the demo, this help text is true, whereas on 3.3.5 stable (which I just installed) it is not true.

If you want additional participants to be registered without requiring an email address to be entered for each person - check the "Register multiple participants" option, AND include a profile in this registration form which includes First Name and Last Name fields.

You will also need to update the default strict duplicate contact matching rule for Individuals to include First Name and Last Name fields (Administer » Manage » Find and Merge Duplicate Contacts).

No word if my 3.3.5 upgrade will fix the messups with first/last name being NULL for additional participants.

However, I'm following these instructions and still email address is a required field for additional participants.  With an identical configuration on the demo site, the email for additional participants is NOT required.

What's even worse is that on 3.3.5 on this particular Joomla install the "Continue" button on additional participants doesn't function at all, and doesn't proceed to Confirmation page *IF* the Duplicate Check rule is set to First/Last = 10 (with no email) and the same email is entered for the primary participant as the secondary participant.

Are there recent changes not in 3.3.5 and only available on trunk?
