Good Morning:

I had established a group and added individual records to that group

I then attempted to do a batch update on those records using a "bulk contact update" profile to verify e-mail addresses etc...

Once the updates were complete, the group association was gone

When looking at the individual records, it show having been removed

Any suggestions

This is killing me...

Our client reports the same. He was not even changing anything but after clicking on "update contacts" the contacts were removed from certain groups. You can reproduce this behaviour on the demo website (see my screenshots):

1. List contacts from any group (e.g. "gropo x"), select them and choose batch update via profile
2. Don't change anything
3. Click on "Update contacts"
4. Check the contacts details
