CiviCRM with Drupal for alumnni?
February 17, 2011, 09:39:25 pm
Hi. I am new to CiviCRM, i have installed civicrm with drupal on my localhost as i wanted to know more about it. But before I really start using it I just wanted to ask whether it is a good idea to use civicrm for building an alumni of students for a college? Are there any educational institutes using civicrm as their alumni portal? If so, can I look at their functionality? Please do let me know. Any advise would be nice.

Thanks.

In principe I imagine CiviCRM would be fine but it depends on what you want to do exactly, can you describe in a little more detail what you expect CiviCRM to do?

I would certainly think so.

Here is one: http://klingenstein.org/ and there are others. There are also plenty of sites with very similar needs to that of alumni-tracking.

If you have any specific questions, please let us know.

Thank you for the replies. Two more questions if you could oblige.

1) Can CiviCRM display a form on the website, for the people visiting the page to fill?

2) I have gone through CiviCRM more deeply. When I create a new Individual there are certain fields which I don't want (the default ones). I am aware that custom fields can be created, but what about the default ones can they be disabled?

I apologize if the above questions don't fall here nevertheless would be glad if you could direct me somewhere if they cannot be answered here.

Thanks.

1. Yes, see http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC33/Profiles+Admin

2. A few can be disabled, but mostly no, they must stay.

Hello.

I am having problem with the import option of Civicrm. When I try uploading 3000 contacts it shows 783 rows to be uploaded & when I try 300 contacts it displays 15 rows to be uploaded. Is it something to do with some execution time?

Also when I clicked to import now the 783 contacts it uploaded only 150 of them. Can you please help and guide me how to rectify this?

Thanks

You are responding off-topic to an old thread. What I would recommend is that you begin a new forum topic here and include in it more details. Normally when rows of a CSV can't be imported, CiviCRM will provide you with an error report detailing what the issues are and why those rows can't be imported.

So start a new thread and try to find that report and tell us what it says there.
