forward email (from token link) not sending emails

the "forward this email feature" which is acheived by using a token in a civimail mailing is not succsessfully sending any emails.  Although it appears to the user as though it has.   The recipeints never receive the mail...

this is using 3.3.5 and using civiSMTP servers which are working successfully for sending mass bulk mailings

This Forward email function uses the civismtp servers I assume?  right?
