New off-line memberships

I recently discovered that if you enter a fixed date membership before it starts (but after the roll-over date) and don't enter the start date it will calculate the start date as being the start of the fixed period not the join date (I had assumed it would use join date after the roll-over period but OK - both ways make sense).

However, it then creates the membership as 'pending' - I had perceived pending as a special status for 'unpaid' but not in this case. Will this sort of 'pending' roll over to new / current when the script runs (and not the sort that is unpaid)?
