Joomla 1.6 and CiviCRM 3.3.5
February 23, 2011, 04:11:52 am
Hi
I'm running Joomla 1.6 on GoDaddy hosting.  I was able to add CiviCRM to the extenstions file, but it does not appear in any back end way to be implemented in the site.  Is it simply because the latest version of CiviCRM doesn't run on Joomla 1.6?  If so, what version should I use?

Thanks!

correct -- v3.3 is not compatible with J1.6
the next version -- v4.0 -- will be. an alpha version of that release cycle is expected to be released fairly soon (next couple weeks)

one suggestion -- godaddy shared hosting is generally fairly poor quality. you may be able to install J and C, but performance may be rather sluggish. you may want to consider upgrading to a VPS level environment

THANKS!  I'm in the process of upgrading to a new server and hosting.
In the meantime, is there an earlier version of CiviCRM that I can use w/ J1.6  or should just look for a different solution?

no... since J16 just came out a month ago, most extension developers are working on getting their next or future versions compatible -- not past ones.
