can't access civicrm admin console
February 23, 2011, 09:50:26 am
I can access the joomla backend and do everything there except open the civicrm module. Any ideas? Does that portion of the console communicate on a different port.

TIA - john

I click on CiviCRM under the components menu. Chrome (web browser) spins it wheel for a while... I get an hour glass with my mouse pointer... A minute later I get the screen shown on the attachment. Sometimes I get a completely blank screen under the Joomla admin top level menus.

More info... I'm running this on a server from home. When I access the server in my house, the CiviCRM control panel loads fine. But it can't load from any computer outside my house. The Joomla backend loads fine, just not CiviCRM. That's why I asked about ports. Is there a port I must open on my firewall?

Your screenshot has a broken image about half-way down the left. If you right-click and choose properties (or whatever the equivalent is in chrome), what does it say the url of the image is? My guess is that some urls are being generated with your server's internal IP address/name, which won't work outside your house no matter what you do with the firewall. This might also include urls for ajax calls within pages. How to fix this depends on your web config.

I don't think it's a port thing.

That was it. "You da man" demeritcowboy. Thanks a bunch. I changed the settings (Administer -> Configure -> Global settings -> Resource URLs) to reflect my external IP and that did it.
