Sounds like you didn't enter the correct directory location for the CiviCRM setup files. It needs to be the full directory path (e.g. /home/user/public_html/temp/com_civicrm/ ).

I've installed CiviCRM on two RC4 sites and it installed correctly and seems to be working fine. So I don't think it's a Joomla issue.

Thanks ICDWEB.

Now I am getting this

"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 98304 bytes) in /home/annotto/public_html/abhea/libraries/domit/xml_domit_lite_parser.php on line 927"

Your memory_limit setting in php is probably the default 8mb, which is insufficient to run the install. Because of CiviCRM's size, it requires higher settings for memory_limit (36mb) and max_execution_time (600). Some shared hosting providers will let you change the default setting by putting a php.ini file in the folders where you need setting overwrites.
