Allowing someone to edit Organization-contact's records & missing record tabs
February 28, 2011, 06:02:32 am
Hi, all -

I'm trying to figure out how to set it up so that a designated individual is able to edit his/her related Organization contact record (and only their related record).  I see from a 3-year old topic thread here (How to enable a Drupal User to edit their own CiviCRM info with a Profile?) that the solution appears to be making a "Relationship" connection between the two records via the contact records "Relationship" tab.

However, my Relationship tabs - all tabs in fact - have disappeared.  I saw them upon initial install, but something I've done in the last three weeks seems to have removed them.  I've seen another thread about missing tabs related to IE7 - but I'm using Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, and the tabs are gone in all of them.

Any helpful pointers here?

Thanks.

I think I've figured this out.  I stumbled around and found my relationship tab for 1 test record - set the relationship - and am sure from its wording that it allows the editing privilege I need (thank you, Dave Greenberg, from the 2008 thread).

But then... I brought up another record, and couldn't find its tabs!

More stumbling around - then I accidently discovers - it seems tabs do not appear when an admin (me) chooses edit from a contacts search result, but they do appear when choosing views from that same search result.

Is this just something weird about my own installation/configuration, or is this possibly universal behavior?  Whichever, has it ever previously been noted and documented anywhere? Perhaps if not as a bug, or a feature request, it could just simply be a helpful note stating, "By the way, access to tabs may only be available via the View link if your configuration is... (x)."

Thank you all for your kind indulgence.
