Sort by name in reports

When (membership, contact) reports are sorted by name, they use the person's title as part of the search order so we get

a person
b person
c person
dr. a
dr. b
e person
Mr A person
Mr B person
Mr Z person
r person
z person

Which isn't very helpful if you're trying to find someone on that list. Can I get the reports not to show titles so they order records consistently? Searching by surname would be even better, but ignoring titles would be a good start.

Ed - I noticed this a while ago and changed the Constituent Summary report (for 3.4) to show and sort by Sort Name (which is how we show and sort search results in the rest of CiviCRM - e.g. lastname, firstname).  I'm really not sure what the reason was for coding many of the reports to show and sort by "Display Name" (e.g. Ms. Jane Doe). I've sent an inquiry to one of our programming leads to see if there was some reason that I'm missing. I'll report back here.

Thanks. Sounds ideal. I'm doing the annual membership renewals at the moment and this is driving me mad!
