Can not remove last parent from smart group

I had a smart group that didn't have a parent.  I added one.  No problem.  Then I wanted to see parent without that child to compare.  I tried to click on the box under the Remove Parents? in group settings and then clicked on Save.  It came back with an error: "Make sure at least one parent group is set."

Is there a reason you can only go one way?  Once you add a parent you can not remove it.   (Well, I suppose I could from the table directly but that's a bit heavy handed.)

Did you ever get a fix for this? I am having the same problem.  I cannot remove parents from groups that previously had them, though I can change which group is the parent.  Any suggestions?

Nope, I never got a reply and now I can't remember what I did.  I either drop the group and created it again or did some sql to the tables (I believe the parent child smart group involves several tables.)

Hello questions,

1.Are you trying to remove the Parent Group from the Child Groups edit page? If you are trying to remove it while on the Parent's edit page this would make sense.

2. Tested this on the demo site and appears to be working fine, maybe an upgrade will fix this.

3. You can view the parent without the child using the "» Include / Exclude Search" custom search.
