Limit non-privileged user from registering anyone other than themselves?
March 05, 2011, 01:37:27 pm
Is there a built in way to prevent user A from registering anyone other than themselves for a particular type of event?  ("user A" being anyone w/out admin privileges - admins must be able to register anyone...)

The most common type of event for which our organization utilizes on line registration is one where members volunteer to help out on days in which we are open to the public.  One of the ways in which a member can be kicked out of the organization is to sign up for this duty, then "no show / no call" for the day, i.e. fail to show up without letting anyone know.

While I don't think it is likely to happen, I'd prefer to eliminate the possibility of user A maliciously registering user B for one of these events, then having user B get kicked out because he didn't show up - hence the question.

Alternatively, this would not need to be done if there were a built in way to track that user A is the person who actually registered user B...

One catch - this cannot be made the default for all events.  We do have other, paid events where we need to have one person be able to register multiple participants (kids classes mainly, where one parent registers multiple kids).

If this is already built in, I apologize - I've spent the past few hours searching & working with test events to try to make this work, but I can't seem to find any guidance or figure it out on my own.  Any input of advice will be much appreciated - thanks.

ETA:  Allowing user A to register anyone they want, but unalterably attaching his name to that registration may actually be the preferred behavior.  This would allow us to track when an admin registered someone as well, and would eliminate the need to have a different behavior for different types of events...
