Civi Pro

Hi there

I am a Civi Newbie and kindly referred by Donald and David.

Firstly, I am an author writing about Civi and secondly, considering using CiviCRM in a new Drupal site I am developing. There is so much in the comprehesive guide - it looks like a highly valued doc but so much to absorb.

Can anyone please give me some advice about how to jump onto Civi quickly and hit the ground running? I know that sound mad but how would a new user get to grips with such an in-depth product in the quickest way when it looks alien to a beginner?

Also, does anyone know any forums or sites that Civi Pros hang out? I ask this because I am keen to see if there are any experienced Civi users who do freelance work to help web owners to set up a new Civiv database.

Any help is most appreciated.

Thank you
Paula

Very much depends of what you want to do and you certainly don't need to know everything in the book to start using civi. Same as music, you can spend your life learning harmony, or go with 3 chords and play guitar in a punk band ;)

I'm assuming you know what a CRM is and what you want to do with it.

I'd suggest to start by installing civi and using it for your org, and find your way so it does what you want and how to configure it if your goal is to explore.

You might want to hire someone experienced that would help you getting quicker to the destination.

Thanks X, I am on a course in London tomorrow and really looking forward to it. Can you suggest which forums I ask for any freelancers to get in touch with me?
Thanks
Paula

there are 3 events in the UK this month :)

Check:

http://civicrm.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=117 - CiviCRM Seminar
http://civicrm.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=112 - Intro to CiviCRM
http://civicrm.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=99 - User/Admin training

organized by 3 different civicrm orgs (a great sign of the strength and diversity of the civi ecosystem in the UK)

you'll meet a lot of folks involved in civi at any/all of these meetings
