More detailed information about subscription (recurring) contribution
March 09, 2011, 04:14:42 pm
Has it ever come up before, or has anyone ever desired to see more detailed information about a subscription (recurring) contribution.  For example, sometimes I would like to know how many payments have been made, or how many remain, or when the subscription started, or more importantly, when a subscription fails or is cancelled.  Some of this can be gleaned by studying the contribution history of a contact, but sometimes is hard to know even then.  Most of this data is in the database, but at the moment about all that is exposed to the user is "Installments" and "Interval" when viewing a specific contribution.  And "Installments" is not how many have been made, but how many the contributor signed up to make.   The specific thing that brings this up for me is that sometimes a user will cancel a subscription, or it will fail and the payment processor will cancel it automatically.  At the moment there is no way to know this without looking in the database manually at the field contribution_status_id and/or cancel_date in the civicrm_contribution_recur table.  As it stands, you just notice that no payments have been made in quite some time.

Does anyone else care to see such data?  If so, any ideas on where to expose it?  I suppose it could be a page of it's own, linked to from "(Recurring Contribution)" wherever that text shows up in connection with a contribution, or it could also be exposed, mostly, next to "Installments" and "Interval" on when viewing a contribution.  Thoughts?

Nathan
