php.ini adaptions for CiviCRM 2.0 on Joomla 1.5 ?
December 28, 2007, 01:33:25 am
Hi All,

My Hosting provider doesn't allow me to adjust the php.ini to accomodate CiviCRM 1.9 on Joomla 1.0X.  As stated in the installation manual I need to configure : max_execution_time = 600 and at least memory_limit = 32M.  Is there a chance that those requirements are lowered for the new CiviCRM2.0 ?

Regards,
Frank

Does your provider allow you to access/update .htaccess ?

Many values, including some values usually found in php.ini (such as the memory limit) can be overridden there. And unless there is a total block on updating values(by any means), at least the memory limit can be updated in the PHP code also.

While 2.0 is significantly faster in areas like search and custom values, we dont expect it to reduce the memory / execution time limits significantly

Any chance that v 2.0 would allow more records to be imported at a time, especially if custom fields are involved?  I'm having to update in groups of 600.

1. import improvements coming in a 2.x release. i suspect we will simplify and restructure import and make it faster

2. if you increase your execution time limit, you will be able to import more records. irrespective of what we do, import will always take longer for larger files (i.e. its an O(n) algorithm at the very best)
