Confirmation page in Joomla goes to Home Page

I'm trying to setup a Joomla installation and am having a couple of issues:
1. The 'confirmation' page is showing on the home page. The contents are correct, but this affects the navigation (the 'Home' button is enabled) and also shows a slideshow that is only set to display on the home page.
2. Is there any way to hide the 'I want to make a one-time contribution' option? We have a separate page that should only accept pledges, not one-time donations.
