disabling contact creation from Drupal user accounts
March 17, 2011, 07:06:27 am
Hi.
We've set up an intranet drupal website where all the staff has accounts -pulled from our Active Directory via LDAP provisionning -

We have then installed civicRM on that Drupal server, so that our lobbying workers can track contacts and campaigns.

When Drupal users are created (as staff members logs in), a civicrm contact gets automatically created.
Our CivicRM users complain that these entries 'pollute' the contacts set, and have raised objections to the automatic creation of contacts in civicRM as these are mostly empty (login and language are the only info in these contacts.)
We don't need a CivicRM contact for most of these users, and if we delete them, the next time the user logs in, a contact is created - again.

I saw information on how to automatically create contacts for all existing users, but none on how to disable the automatic creation of contacts for new Drupal users. Can this be done ?
While in some scenarios it can indeed be quite useful to create a contact for each user of the underlying CMS, I suppose this is not always pertinent.

Any pointers would be welcome.

this is quite important since for many a case we do record who did what operation and hence need a contact id which are FK's in other tables.

you might want to structure the smart groups u create, so they do not include these users

Thanks for the insight.
Our users are quite unsophisticated and tend to just browse the list than actually use the search feature or use group.
i think the solution lies in educating them  ;D
