Searching by email address within CiviMember
December 31, 2007, 12:50:47 pm
Within CiviMember, it seems I cannot search for a user record based on email address. I have only been able to do this from the specific email address search field on CiviCRM's Advanced Search page.

I tried to search for a user by email address on the CiviMember Find Members page, where beneath the text box it reads "Complete OR partial name OR email." Yet, I only succeed when I search by last name (or first name if I use a "%"). Any time I enter a full email address, or a partial one with "%", I get no results.

The same search, using the specific email address search box in Advanced Search will bring up the correct results.

I believe I'm using the latest version 1.9 of CiviCRM. Thanks for any help or pointers you can provide!  :)

ben:

yes, we changed the definition of that "search" field throughout the system and made name specifically mean "LAST_NAME%" or as u've figured, FIRST_NAME if u add a % sign.

The comment is misleading and we'll get rid of it asap. If you think having an email address search is quite essential on that screen (and also contrib/participant screen's) please file an issue and we'll potentially do this in 2.0

Lobo, I think your solution is good. The comment was misleading, and that is what confused me primarily. I don't mind going to the Advanced Search screen to search by email address, now that I know this is the design. Thanks!
