import from 37 signals highrise
March 21, 2011, 06:15:13 am
Hi, I am just considering writing a script to import contacts and activities from a highrise account to a civicrm installation. My first thoughts were to use the highrise api to extract the data and the civicrm api to insert it. I have searched the forums for highrise to no avail... does anyone know whether this has been tried before?

Regards,
Douglas.

Your approach sounds correct. I am fairly certain that no one has every mentioned here doing this before. Other systems have been migrated, but not Highrise, as far as I know.

Thanks very much for the response - I could do with developing a better understanding of how civi works so I think I will give it a shot.

Cheers,
Douglas.

Douglas - A lot of hard work has gone into improving CiviCRM's API's over the past 6 months. There is a new v3 API available in the upcoming 3.4 / 4.0 release (in beta this week) which I would encourage you to use if you're starting a new project. Some resources:

http://civicrm.org/category/civicrm-blog-categories/civicrm-api
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/CiviCRM+Public+APIs

Folks from the A(pi)-team are frequently on #civicrm IRC (freenode.net). If you come up against issues they may be able to steer you (or talk you into helping plug a gap :-) ).

Thanks Dave, I will have a look at the new docs. I am on holiday for the next couple of weeks so might be able to make some progress on it!
