Joomla 1.6 Install errors

Hi,
When I install 4.0b1, Joomla gives me the following errors:

JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file
Error building Admin Menus

Naturally after the install (which is otherwise successful), under Components I have no CiviCRM item. I can access the install if I add &option=com_civicrm to the URL, but my resident Civi expert is probably not going to be savvy enough to remember this. Has anyone else come across this? How might I fix it?

I also get the error about building admin menus in 4.0 B3

not sure whether it is important but I used the joomla-alt package.

Just tested the normal package and it works fine, is there an issue with the alt package?

Dug around a bit more an followed the advice here (for the #_menu for civicrm) and installed again with no issue

Not sure why the original didn't work.
