CiviMail Stopping without sending to all recipients

Our last 2 bulk mailing (13k email addresses) have both delivered to 3,500 of the target recipients then stopped. 

The mailings sit at the bottom of the "send and scheduled mailings" list and never show a completed date.  The Cron job is up and running & we're running Joomla! 1.5.2.1 and CiviCRM 3.3.1.

Any thoughts?

If i had to guess there is one email address which basically aborts the process and hence the mailing is failing

check the error log and see if that is the issue. Also you might need to add debugging statements and see what email address is triggering this reaction

Not sure if it was before or after the 3.3.1 that has been fixed, but at one point, civi chocked if the name of the contact had a ' (or é or... some char that needs to be escaped/encoded).

run the cronjob manually, you should get the error message quite clearly.

P.S. Pretty sure that has been fixed on the latest version. if not could you fill a bug once you have identified ?

Thanks Lobo & Xavier.  The error logs looked clean, I'm going to try another bulk mailing and run the cron manually and see what happens.

Just tried sending to our whole list (13k) again, ran the cron manually, and got a '500 read timeout' error. 

When I checked the reporting in CiviCRM once again only 3k have been sent.

That error could be a CPU timeout. Perhaps you need to limit the number of outgoing emails to a smaller figure. :)

That or memory exhaustion. (the problem I'm struggling with right now)
