Custom date field with multiple records - problems with search results

I have a custom date field (for a custom Contact subtype) that accepts multiple records. I have made it search-enabled (by range).

However, I've noticed a few problems when trying to search this field:

Advanced search:
* When entering a range for this field and searching, the Advanced search seems to ignore it and returns all the contacts in the database as a result.

Search builder:
* The custom date field doesn't show up as an option in Search Builder at all.

Is this an inherent limitation of the multiple-record option of the field, or am I doing something wrong? (And if it is an inherent limitation, it would probably be helpful to add "won't show up in Search builder" or "date fields can't be used in Advanced search" in the documentation: http://civicrm.org/node/504)

The advanced search item was a bug see http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,14162.msg60436.html#msg60436 not sure if it was fixed in the later versions.  What version are you running.

The search builder item is a limitation and not an easy one to overcome.

Your right about the documentation.  The documentation on Civi is still a bit limited, but it is improving. We all need to help with it ;)
