Should Custom Data fields default to be Searchable

Not sure I see polls being used much on the forum but thought I would give this a whirl as a way to get feedback. Personally I am for ever having to remind myself to make Fields searchable, or having to explain to clients that the reason they can't find fields in Adv Search is that they didn't make them Searchable. Alternatively maybe a bit of HELP text on the Adv Search screen to explain that fields can be configured to be available or removed.

in general making all fields searchable is a very bad idea from a database perspective. Indexes take space (and i think there is  a finite limit to how many u can have per table) and also slow down inserts/updates

If this is set by default, then i suspect most people will not bother to reset them and hence potentially hit some of the issues above. At the least we should figure out what are the consequences of making all columns in a table indexable
