I've been looking for a few hours now, and cannot find information anywhere on how to update existing membership information from a .csv file. I go to the "Import Memberships" page, choose "Update existing Membership", but cannot determine how to locate the already existing "Membership ID" that is required to identify which memberships I'd like to update.

I assume this is something easy to find that I am simply missing...?

I guess first you will have to export membership information as csv, then update the CSV file and then import it again.
