countries and states lists - how to add

When I’m trying to select country by editing contacts I can only choose United States and 5 states listed in the box below (State/Province).
Is it possible to add countries and districts??
I can easily edit tables in DB but I should only know what tables contain this data.
PS I use Joomla 1.0 ..

But I still need the State / Province list. It’s very limited list of districts for Denmark, Ukraine and Russia.
Is it possible to expand it ??

Please check and add to the civicrm_state_province table. If we are missing states or provinces in DK/Ukraine/RU, it should be filed as an issue along with the missing elements so that we can fix for 2.0

I have somewhat of a related issue.  Probably minor, but 99% of our contacts are in the state of Colorado - would be nice if we could default to Colorado with an option to change.

Currently you can only setup default Country. For this feature will have to map each country to its province, so bit tricky. It would be great if you can contribute this patch.
